5ème Trip to Ireland

5ème Cultural and Lingusitic experience in the Emerald Isle

In the early hours of Saturday 25th March, 64 bilingual students flew to Dublin for a week long cultural and linguistic experience in Westport, Co. Mayo, Ireland.

After a 3 hour bus ride from Dublin to Westport, students were greeted by their Irish host families. The action-packed week included a total immersion into Irish culture through fun activities such as Gaelic football, Irish dancing and learning to play the tin whistle.   Students also spent a full day at Glen Keen farm where they learnt about turf cutting, sheep herding and baking scones.

A typical pub lunch at Cosy Joe’s was a real success, as was the afternoon trip to Clare island where students were able to admire the breathtaking landscape and views.

What made the trip to Ireland so valuable was learning new things and having been taken out of my comfort zone.  Ireland is very different to France. I liked meeting new people and being with my host family.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Anishka     5J

I think the trip to Ireland was great!  I learned a lot of things about Irish culture.  The host family was very kind.  The activities were really fun and the landscapes were extraordinary.  This is my all time favourite trip.

Thank you to Mrs. Le Coustumer,  Mrs. Hartman,  Miss Forde,  Miss Harding  and  Mr. Breuillier.                                                                                                                                                            Luke  5E

First of all, I would like to thank all and every teacher for this amazing trip!

I think it was very interesting to learn about Irish culture.  The host family was very nice and cooked delicious food!  I loved having Mrs. Hartman as the teacher in charge of our group.  The time spent shopping was wonderful as well as the nice bus driver Jerry. Overall, it was the best trip we have ever had as bilinguals!!! So once again THANK YOU!                                   Gabrielle    5E

The trip to Ireland was by far the best school trip I have ever had.  My host family was extremely nice and the activities we did were so much fun!  In each hike we did, I would always be stunned by the views Ireland has to offer.  I cannot thank the teachers enough for the opportunity.

Going to Ireland was one of the best school trips I have ever had. This trip made me more responsible and it helped me to socialise with my friends and Irish hosting family. We did plenty of fun activities such as an escape game, Gaelic football, tin whistle and Irish dancing.  Jerry, the bus driver was nice and during our stay we felt at home.                                                                                           Priyanka  5E

I think that the trip to Ireland was wonderful. I loved the house and the people.  I enjoyed the escape game, the ice cream shop and just shopping in general. I think that during the week, we had a lot going on and it was very tiring.  The bus and the plane ride were good.

                                                                                                                                                                                                         Adrien   5J

Ireland was such an amazing experience with our friends – we bonded and had a lot of fun. It was very social and I felt it was a vacation from school and with the Irish families we really felt like we lived in Ireland.  I got along with people whom I never thought I would get on with.  I will cherish the memory of this trip forever.                                                                                                                                    Alice    5J
